HOW DO I SPECIFY A SCALE??

1. The scale shown above ( 1:5000) means ONE inch on the map equals 5000 inches on the ground.

2. To convert this type of scale to something understandable, like ONE INCH EQUALS 100 FEET, do the following:

a. Decide what scale you want your map at, say 1”=100’

b. Convert the FEET portion of your scale to INCHES, in this case it would be 100 FEET x 12 INCHES PER FOOT = 1200 INCHES

c. Therefore, the scale you would use is 1:1200

3. When you print you will likely get a message box as shown on the next page
