Silverbell Road Design Concept Study

The Silverbell Road Design Concept Study will focus on the 8-mile stretch of Silverbell Road between Grant Road in the City of Tucson north to Ina Road in Marana. The Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), in conjunction with the Town of Marana and Pima County, are beginning a transportation planning study for Silverbell Road, from Ina Road to Grant Road.

Silverbell Road is a critical regional transportation link that serves the west and northwest portions of the Tucson metropolitan area. This major transportation improvement project was approved by voters in May 2006 as part of the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP).

The voter approved RTP calls for Silverbell Road to be improved to a 4-lane divided desert parkway to include pedestrian facilities, bike lanes, drainage improvements, new native landscaping, and enhanced wildlife crossings. This roadway improvement project will promote mobility and provide improved capacity and safety.

The Design Concept Study for Silverbell Road, Grant Road to Ina Road, is just getting underway with the selection and formation of the Citizen Task Force (CTF). This task force will include representatives from surrounding neighborhoods, business interests, alternative modes, and regional interests. TDOT will establish the 15-member Citizen Task Force to provide input on transportation planning and the overall character of the roadway.
